Born in Pensacola, Florida to a business-executive father and a stay-at-home mother, he grew up in Akron, Ohio, and graduated from WalshJesuit High School, a private, Jesuit school, in 1974, and from Ohio StateUniversity in 1978, where he majored in sociology.
Connor serves on several boards, including the Board of Directors of National City Corporation and Eaton Corporation, the Board of the National Association of Manufacturers and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
He is a trustee of University Hospitals of Cleveland and a member of several other civic and economic boards in Cleveland, where he resides.
Aftergraduation he worked at an advertisingagency and at the Gliddenpaint company, then became an advertisingdirector at Sherwin Williams. He is a member of the generalchairs of the campaign. When in September 2005 his high schoollaunched a "For the GreaterGlory of God" campaign to mark its 40th anniversary, he donated $1 million to the campaign and gave a speech at its celebration.
