Before joining the IAF, she underwent six months of intensive training at the Air Force Academy in Telangana's Dundigal.
The 29-year-old first flew the MiG-21 Bison in IAF Squadron service after she completed her training on Hawk Advanced Jet Trainers. This time as a squadron leader her participation in the air drills marks the first time that a female fighter pilot of the IAF is a part of an international joint exercise abroad.
She started her schooling from Deoband in Madhya Pradesh. She was earlier being trained with a trainer, but then Flying Officer, now squadron Leader Avani Chaturvedi made history as she flew her plane for 30 minutes from Gujarat’s Jamnagar Airbase. She has inspired numerous young women to pursue careers that were once deemed unconventional for their gender.
