Ásgrímur Jónsson (1876–1958) was one of the pioneers of Icelandic visual art and the first Icelandic painter to make art his main profession. His painting style is similar to the French impressionists like Corot.

Ásgrímur was born on March 4, 1876, on the farm Suðurkot in Rútsstaðahverfi in South Iceland's Flói region. Before him are Hrafn Gunnlaugsson (1948), Sigurður Eggerz (1875), Hermann Jónasson (1896), Steingrímur Steinþórsson (1893), Hera Björk (1972), and Þórbergur Þórðarson (1888). His vision of nature was shaped by 19th-century romanticism, and he remained faithful to that vision, though his emphases and work methods changed over the course of a career spanning nearly 60 years.

These consisted of 192 oil paintings and 277 water colours together with a great number of unfinished pictures dating from various periods in his life.
