Elbaz's simple, comfortable, and feminine clothing, reminiscent of Lanvin's classic sportswear designs from the 1920s, received high praise from the fashion press. However, his legacy lives on! He worked for two years in a company that produced clothing for mothers of brides and then spent seven years under the mentorship of Geoffrey Beene.

During his time with Beene, Elbaz was influenced by the designer's rejection of typical fashion trends and his skill in draping and fabric selection.

Just months after this thrilling venture began, he tragically passed away from complications related to COVID-19, leaving the fashion world in profound shock. With a unique blend of talent, relentless hard work, and a touch of Moroccan flair, Elbaz was on an undeniable path to greatness. Elbaz was considered perfect for the position, and many believed he would take over the fashion house when Yves Saint Laurent retired.

Alber Elbaz was not just a designer; he was a visionary who left an indelible mark on the world of fashion. AZ Factory continues to inspire conversations about innovative fashion, inclusivity, and responsibility in the industry. His commitment to inclusivity and creativity continues to inspire future designers to push boundaries and think beyond conventional norms.

Here are three exciting highlights from AZ Factory:

  1. Body Positivity: The inaugural collection, "My Body," celebrated all shapes and sizes, showcasing ergonomic designs that offered both comfort and style.
  2. Inclusivity: AZ Factory embraced diversity, ensuring that every woman felt represented and empowered in her clothing.
  3. Fashion Reset: Elbaz aimed to challenge traditional fashion cycles, promoting year-round wear and prioritizing function alongside style.

Tragically, just a few months after the launch, Elbaz passed away from COVID-19.

In 2012, Elbaz showcased his visionary designs once again, this time partnering with luxury eyewear brand Oliver Peoples to create a collection of stunning sunglasses that effortlessly blended timeless style with contemporary flair.

As 2013 unfolded, Elbaz’s creative genius was recognised with the prestigious Superstar Award at the Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars, solidifying his status as one of the industry’s most influential designers.

With unwavering support from his mother, who believed in his talent, he set off to chase his passion in the fashion capital of the world. In August 2001, the company was acquired by representatives of the investment group "Harmonie S.A.," and its leader, Taiwanese media magnate Shaw-Lan Wang, decided to enlist Elbaz's services. It was based on a light shade of forget-me-not blue, Jeanne Lanvin's favorite color.

Currently, he is in a stable relationship with Alex Koo, who works as the marketing director for Lanvin.

But, by the time of Elbaz's arrival, the Laroche enterprise had become overly conservative and lackluster. His use of sumptuous fabrics like silk and tulle, combined with whimsical fantasy sleeves and playful peplums, crafted irresistibly alluring silhouettes.

This pivotal moment marked his deep dive into the fashion industry, where he was determined to carve out his identity as a designer. Elbaz's design philosophy celebrated unashamed femininity. After finishing his service Elbaz toyed with the idea of becoming an actor but instead decided on fashion enrolling in a design course at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in 1982.

After graduating, and with a financial gift from his mother, Elbaz arrived in New York in 1984 taking a job designing dresses.

In 1989 Elbaz met with Gucci’s Dawn Mello, which led to an introduction to Geoffrey Beene.

There are shopping bags, imprinted with Paul Iribe's 1907 illustration of Lanvin and her daughter Marguerite, and new shoe boxes much like antique library files, tied with black ribbons, to emphasize the precious nature of the product.

Elbaz's simple and feminine clothing — similar to the sporty, casual character of Lanvin's 1920s outfits— has been lauded by the fashion press.
