He was keen on the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) being solely owned by Oyo state and no one would speak ill of Ogbomoso where Alao-Akala was, without being rebuked. 

He sought a re-election for a second term in office in 2011 and 2015, but lost to the late Abiola Ajimobi on both occasions.

Educational Background

Alao Akala did his primary and secondary school at Osupa Baptist Day School, Ogbomoso, he then proceeded to the Kamina Barracks Middle School, 5th Battalion of Infantry in Tamale, Ghana.

His administration was characterized by a people-first approach and policies that prioritized the welfare of the masses.

He was a former governor of Oyo state. He participated in the Ogbomoso Federal Constituency (One) primary election of the UNCP in 1997. His influence and goodwill extended beyond politics, as he continued to lend his voice and experience to issues concerning the state and its people.

Alao-Akala founded the Ogbomoso Unity Forum, a political association that later joined the PDP.

He was the Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government from 1999 to 2002. His tenure is fondly remembered as a golden era by many across the state.

Even after leaving office, Alao-Akala remained a force in the political landscape of Oyo State. He became the Personal Assistant to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police and subsequently the ADC to the Inspector-General of Police.

Adebayo Alao- Akala held several command positions in the Nigerian police.

In 2006, the Supreme Court overturned the impeachment and Rashidi Ladoja was reinstated to complete his tenure.

In 2007, he contested and won the gubernatorial election under the aegis of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to become the sixth executive governor of Oyo state, serving a full term till May 2011. Adebayo Alao- Akala retired as an Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Logistics and Supply， Oyo State Police Command， Eleyele， Ibadan.

In 1996， Alao-Akala ventured into politics.

He contested and won the chairmanship seat of the Ogbomoso North Local Government along with seven councilors under the platform of APP in 1998. He was the Operational Commander Advanced Training Wing， Police College， Ikeja.

He was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bode Thomas， Lagos， Iponri Police Station， Lagos， Nigeria Railways， Ebutte Meta， Lagos; Area Commander， Western District and Nigeria Railway Police， Ibadan.

Alao- Akala was the CSP Admin; Gongola State Command， Yola and later Kwara State Command， Ilorin.

Alao- Akala served as the Assistant Commissioner of Police， Agodi Area Command， Ibadan， Oyo State Police Command， Ibadan.

He was Nigerian delegate at two INTERPOL conferences in Nice， France and in Málaga， Spain.

In 1995.

Alao Akala got married to Kemi Alao Akala and he had seven children. During his time as a governor, rural electrification and construction of roads received attention, state civil service became rejuvenated with early payment, interest-free loans were introduced to traders and contracts were awarded only to competent indigenous contractors.

Some people called him “bling bling governor” because he often appeared in public wearing gold wristwatches, gold-plated chains and bangles; some called him ‘Oyato’ because he made a difference when he assumed power and yet some others called him ‘ATM’ because he knew how to make money available to people.

Beyond his works in public service, Alao-Akala was a businessman.

He loves Ogbomoso and doesn’t pretend about it, he was born into a Christian, baptist family and he has never deviated from that.

Alao Akala also spoke different languages like English, Yoruba, Hausa, and Ghanaian languages (Tiv, Fanti, and Dagbani) fluently. He was once the Governor of Oyo State and a candidate of the ADP in the 2019 Governorship election in Oyo State.

He obtained a diploma in Business administration in 1998 and Doctor of Civil Law (DCL) Honoris Causa， LAUTECH， Ogbomoso in 2006.

In 2008， he obtained a Doctor of Science (Political Science) Honoris Causa from Lead City University， Ibadan.

He is an alumnus of the Administrative Staff College， Topo， Badagry; the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs (NIIA)， Victoria Island， Lagos; Police Staff College， Jos; Command and Staff College， Jaji.

Career

Adebayo Alao- Akala started his career as a Cadet Inspector in the Nigerian Police College， Ikeja in 1974.

This he did by becoming the elected Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government on the platform of All People’s Party (APP). He emerged the party flag bearer but lost in the 2015 general election.

In December 2017， Alao- Akala defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC). He rose from humble beginnings to become a political giant revered for his generosity, charisma, and dedication to the well-being of his people.
