Curriculum materials have been developed to help school teachers in lesson planning. They formed a cult known as the "Kingdom" and moved to Sing Sing (renamed Ossining) in southeast New York in 1833. She sought political equality for all women and chastised the abolitionist community for failing to seek civil rights for Black women as well as men.
Truth dictated her recollections to a friend, Olive Gilbert, since she could not read or write.
Continues fight for freed slaves
Following the end of the Civil War, Truth continued to work with freed slaves. Man had nothing to do with Him.

The Baumfrees were separated after the death of Charles Hardenbergh in 1806. She gives a very popular speech that has come to be known as "Ain't I a Woman," even though she never said that phrase.

In 1850, Truth spoke at the first National Women's Rights Convention in Worcester, Massachusetts.
In 1843, deciding her mission was to preach the word of God, Isabella changed her name to Sojourner Truth and left the city. Members lived together on 500 acres as a self-sufficient community. Truth traveled throughout New England, attending and holding prayer sessions. The 9-year-old Truth, known as "Belle" at the time, was sold at an auction with a flock of sheep for $100.
