After a break of three years, Tshabalala was recalled in 2017 to play in two World Cup qualifying matches against Senegal. As a child, Tshabalala dreamed to be a chartered accountant.

Although Tshabalala played the majority of his career in his home country, he did spend a season in Turkey.

Tshabalala suffered a personal tragedy when his mother, Rebecca Hadifele “Hadi” Makhubu, died in December 2010.

After spells with Phiri Arsenal and Phiri Movers, he joined the prestigious Kaizer Chiefs academy. On August 31, 2007, he made his debut in a 1–0 loss against Bidvest Wits.

Siphiwe Tshabalala was born on 25 September 1984 in Soweto and went on to become one of the most well-loved and best soccer players in South Africa.

After scoring 31 goals in just 64 games he earned a move back to the club that he is most well-known for – Kaizer Chiefs.

Siphiwe Tshabalala made his debut for Kaizer Chiefs in August 2007 and scored his first goal for the Johannesburg club at the end of that year. He eventually made his first appearance for Chiefs in August 2007 and played his first Soweto derby in November that year.

By December 2007, Tshabalala had played in his first cup final, winning the Telkom Knockout against Mamelodi Sundowns.

His stellar performances earned him multiple accolades at the club’s awards ceremony, including Player and Players’ Player of the Year, Goal of the Season, and Website Player of the Year.

One of his most memorable domestic goals came in 2015 – a thunderous volley against Free State Stars, reminiscent of his World Cup goal, and scored at the same stadium.

Tshabalala made 372 appearances for Kaizer Chiefs and scored 58 goals.

He is the eldest of two children born to Isaac Tshabalala and Hadifele Rebecca (née Makhubu).
