Having come over to the UK from Ireland to make his name, Fallon’s combative nature brought him to the attention of the racing authorities. His magnificent record, which saw him crowned Champion Jockey on six occasions, ensured he became one of racings biggest stars. When he dragged a rival jockey off his mount in 1994, he began a series of run-ins that would eventually see him on trial in the Old Bailey, accused of race fixing.
Yet controversies shadowed his career: multiple riding bans, a six-month suspension for violent conduct in 1994, two positive cocaine tests resulting in suspensions (including 18 months in 2008), and a high-profile 2006–2007 race-fixing trial at the Old Bailey, where he was acquitted after the case collapsed.
Retiring in 2016 at age 51 amid depression struggles, Fallon left a complex legacy as a "flawed genius." His extraordinary talent cemented his status among modern greats, though personal issues often eclipsed his achievements.
