After him are Sidney Nolan, Dinu Lipatti, Maurice Duverger, Masahiko Kimura, Obdulio Varela, and Kamal Jumblatt. He was formally presented as a bullfighter (known as “taking the alternative”) in Seville on 2nd July by Chicuelo, with Gitanillo de Triana as witness. He took part in 16 bullfights.

Tragic End
Despite the efforts of doctors, the renowned Spaniard passed away in the hospital on August 29, 1947. Manolete was born on July 4, 1917, in the city of Cordoba, Spain.
Family Legacy
Bullfighting ran in Manolete's blood as both his father and grandfather were matadors.
Despite his mastery, he suffered numerous injuries throughout his dangerous career. He tragically passed away a day after sustaining fatal injuries during a bullfight. Furthermore, he was the great-nephew of the legendary 19th-century bullfighter, Jose Rodriguez, known as Pepe.
Early Career
Manuel had his first serious bullfight at the age of fifteen, where he also adopted the pseudonym Manolete.
Before him are Herbert Backe, Luigi Russolo, Hjalmar Siilasvuo, Albert Marquet, Reynaldo Hahn, and Paul P. Harris. Officially, Manolete was inducted into the ranks of matadors in July 1939 in Seville.
Peak of Success
For eight years, Manolete was the most popular and highest-paid bullfighter in the world. Nevertheless, with each season, he performed an increasing number of bullfights.
Decline in Fame
Over time, the fame of the great matador began to fade as new idols of the public emerged.
The first bull he fought as a matador came from the Clemente Tassara cattle farm and was named “Mirador”. Manolete, who had become a symbol of courage for the Spaniards, had the most massive funeral in the history of Spain.

Manuel Laureano Rodríguez Sánchez (4 July 1917 – 29 August 1947), known as Manolete, was a Spanish bullfighter.
He “cut two ears”, but was wounded in the process. He made his first appearance at the old Tetuan de las Victorias bullring in Madrid.
1939. Initially, the public did not perceive him as a serious bullfighter. After him are Gusztáv Jány, Prince Eugen, Duke of Närke, Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz, Karel Čurda, Black Dahlia, and Franz Böhme.
