From a young age, her passion for gymnastics emerged when she began taking lessons at just 6 years old. She was the first gymnast to win all five gold medals there since 1969.
Dawes again made the cut for the 1996 U.S.
Olympic team. Starting her gymnastics journey at the age of 6 under the guidance of coach Kelli Hill, Dawes quickly rose through the ranks. She competed favorably during the main event, and the team won bronze in the competition.
